Lempi’s autumn season kicks off in a unique and long-awaited way, as we finally get to perform the Finnish premiere of the Pulitzer and Grammy award-winning American composer star Caroline Shaw’s To the Hands series. In addition, it is the first time the choir performs as part of the renowned choral music concept Kuoromusiikin kausikonsertit .
Caroline Shaw’s piece To the Hands gets its Finnish premiere at Ritarihuone, Helsinki on Thu September 7th, 2023. The principal theme of the work focuses on the responsibility and role of humanity in global human rights crises, such as the refugee issue. The choir performs the work together with Nome Quartet and a double bass player. The concert is conducted my MuM Julia Lainema.
You are also warmly welcome to come listen to the pre-talk before the concert at 6 pm! You are free to enjoy drinks and snacks from the cafe-bar of Ritarihuone.
The rest of the programme reflects the dialogue between different eras, composers, the art world and society. The concert opens up with Jukka Linkola’s Punapaula is a new rendition of a traditional Finnish folk tune. Juhani Komulainen’s colour-swirling Fantaisies Decorativesin holds a very clear dialogue with the texts of Oscar Wilde . Eric Whitacre on the other hand, found his inspiration for Leonardo Dreams of his Flying Machine whilst listening to the fourth madrigal book of Claudio Monteverdi from which we will hear Luci serene e chiare in the concert.
